Bill Sanders was a heck of a cartoonist back when the Milwaukee Journal was a crusading newspaper. Back then the daily Sanders cartoon was frequently featured on the front page. Bill showed a lot of courage at a difficult time. He was also a kind and generous mentor. I did editorial cartooning for a while at the old Albuquerque Tribune and Bill and Milwaukee Sentinel cartoonist Tom Curtis were both very helpful and encouraging. Bill even gave me drawing brushes.  The book is an excellent representation of the best of his work from that time and a powerful record of the Vietnam War era.
